I am so excited I finally found a copy of the magazine called, “Calling All Girls”, February 1949 with the short story called. \u201cA Giant in the Parlor\u201d. It is a fictional story that Mrs. Butters wrote about Abraham Lincoln. There was no mention of this story in anything I have read until I was collecting newspaper articles to include with all the republished Young Adult books the family is currently doing. One of the articles that announced her first published book mentioned that she had published a short story in the magazine.
\n<\/p>\n

Our old friends at http:\/\/www.pastpaper.com <\/a>had a copy of the magazine and for the low price of $19.65 (that includes shipping), he will mail out the magazine this week. This is so awesome. The collector who is providing the copies calls his business – “Crinkley Bottom Books”. So cute. <\/p>\n

If you are looking for any old magazines for research or just for fun I would recommend their service. You can sometimes find special deals from their stock on eBay. <\/p>\n

She also published another condensed version from her book – “A New Kind of Country” in the September 1979 Reader’s Digest called, “A Garden Grows in Lower East Pubnico”. Her son’s sent me a box of extra books they had found when they cleaned out her house. That was a very kind gesture on their part. The Reader’s Digest was in the box with a hand-written page number as reference. There were several hard back editions of some of the books with different author pictures! I will be adding those to the gallery after I get them cleaned up and uploaded.<\/p>\n

Update on the Book Conversions<\/h3>\n

Okay, the next book in the series is on hold for a little while. Hopefully, just a month as the family and my publishing company are working out the copyright logistics. It seems when an author passes away their copyright goes to their heirs (naturally), however if the heir wishes to publish any of the books again they will have to put in a transfer request. The next 8 titles are listed as under official copyright. We will have to create and sign an “official contract” after the titles are transferred to provide to the Print-on-Demand company we are using. There are three different ones. Anyway, there might be a bit of a delay. <\/p>\n

QUESTION: <\/strong>Do you like the new covers that have been used on the YA books? and if so, should the remaining books keep to the same kind of theme and just changing the colors of each one? Let me know in the comments below. <\/p>\n
