I received this email yesterday:
Dear Jolene,
I am sorry to let you know that my mother, Dorothy Gilman, passed away this morning at the age of 88. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for the past nine years so her death is both sad and a relief. She appreciated the kind work you have done to provide information and a forum for her fans. Take care and feel free to pass this information along as you see fit. Jonathan Butters
We wish to express our sincerest regret to Jonathan and the rest of his family for this tremendous loss. All of us will cherish her writings and miss her style.

I started to read mrs. Gilmans books when I was 14 years old and now I am 46. Her books are like old friends to me. My sincere condoleances to her family and friends.
I have visited this site often, but just registered today so that I may leave a comment. I never met Dorothy Gilman, but her books are truly magical. Her stories are vibrant and alive. It is with great sadness that I learn that she is no longer with us. Such a wonderful lady, my condolences to her family. Alzheimers is such a devastating a sad disease, I am so sorry. You are truly in my thoughts.
